The New Jersey Real Estate Broker License Examination is the upper-tier real estate licensing exam in New Jersey, taken by experienced salespersons who want to open their own brokerage or supervise other licensees. Administered by PSI on behalf of the New Jersey Real Estate Commission, the exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice test with a national portion and a New Jersey state portion - both at a higher level of difficulty than the salesperson exam. To qualify, candidates must have been actively licensed and engaged in the real estate business as a full-time salesperson for at least three years immediately preceding application and must complete the 150-hour broker pre-licensing curriculum (Broker General, Office Management, and Ethics & Agency).

Dive Deeper into the
NJ Real Estate Broker Exam

What does the New Jersey Broker exam cover?

The PSI-administered exam has two sections: a national portion at the broker level covering advanced principles, contracts, financing, agency and office management, and a New Jersey portion covering broker-level license law, REC rules, escrow, and ethics & agency.

Who can take this exam?

Anyone who has been actively licensed and engaged as a full-time New Jersey salesperson for at least three years immediately preceding application and has completed the required 150-hour broker pre-licensing courses.

How should I prepare for the NJ Broker exam?

The broker exam goes deeper than the salesperson exam, especially on office management, trust accounts, advertising rules and broker supervision. Lean on the practice questions to identify weak areas and review your office-management and ethics & agency course materials carefully.

Prepare for the NJ Broker Exam with Confidence

Passing the New Jersey Real Estate Broker License Examination unlocks the ability to operate your own brokerage and supervise other licensees in New Jersey. With solid scores in both the national and state portions, you demonstrate that you understand both advanced real estate practice and the rules that govern broker-level operations.
