In Illinois the "broker" license is the entry-level real estate license - the equivalent of a salesperson license in other states. The Illinois Real Estate Broker Examination is administered by PSI on behalf of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). The exam is computer-based and split into a national portion and an Illinois state portion. To sit for it, candidates must complete 75 hours of approved pre-licensing education (60 hours of broker pre-license topics and 15 hours of interactive coursework). The state portion focuses on the Real Estate License Act of 2000, agency, license law, escrow, and Illinois statutes and rules.

Dive Deeper into the
Illinois Real Estate Broker Exam

What does the Illinois Broker exam cover?

The PSI-administered exam has two sections: a national portion covering general real estate principles, contracts, financing and federal regulations, and an Illinois portion covering the Real Estate License Act of 2000, IDFPR rules, agency, escrow and disclosures.

Who is required to take this exam?

Anyone seeking an entry-level real estate license in Illinois. Note that Illinois calls its entry-level license a "broker" license - it is not the supervising-broker license, which is called a "managing broker" license.

How should I prepare for the IL Broker exam?

Solidify the national principles first, then drill on Illinois-specific rules - the License Act of 2000, escrow accounts, agency disclosure timing and dual-agency consent. Our question bank gives you realistic practice with detailed explanations so you can spot weak areas before test day.

Prepare for the IL Broker Exam with Confidence

Passing the Illinois Real Estate Broker Examination is the gateway to working as a licensed agent in Illinois. With solid scores in both the national and state portions, you demonstrate that you understand both general real estate practice and the rules that govern transactions in Illinois.
