CA Department of Insurance
The California Property and Casualty License Exam is the licensing test for anyone seeking to sell, solicit, or negotiate property and casualty insurance in California. The exam is administered by PSI on behalf of the California Department of Insurance (CDI). It is a computer-based, closed-book multiple-choice test, typically delivered as a combined Property Broker-Agent Examination covering personal and commercial property and casualty lines. Candidates must complete 20 hours of approved P&C pre-licensing education plus 12 hours of California insurance code and ethics training (a separate state requirement) before scheduling. The exam covers general property & casualty insurance concepts plus the California Insurance Code, Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations, and California-specific consumer protections.
